Three Months

This little guy turned three months yesterday.

It’s been a big week

This week we booked our flights to Zambia!  We are leaving on September 11 and coming back to the UK on November 27.  This all makes it very real.  I faffed around all last week, putting off booking the flights.  I asked the travel agent a whole load of mostly useless questions, moved around the dates and just generally probably annoyed him, just because I felt non-committal.  Don’t get me wrong, I am so excited to go, but now it all becomes a lot more real.

This week we also confirmed where we are going to live.  Again, something I put off a bit as well.  But we’re definitely going to be staying in Ndola in two guest apartments.  They are studio apartments so we’ll have use of two of them and one will be a sleeping area and one a living area.  It might not be ideal but we’ll make it work.  We’ll have the two apartments on the left.

Preparation

It’s approximately three months until we leave the UK for Zambia.  We knew that we’d wait until getting back from Canada to start preparing and in my mind this was ages away.  Well, Jacob has arrived, Mum and Dad have visited, and our time in Canada has come and gone.  We are back now and it’s time to prepare.

We’ve made a long list of things we need to do to get ready: international drivers licenses, sort out of flat, sell our furniture, figure out what to do with our car, book flights, find somewhere to live in Zambia, immunisations and the list goes on and on…

As part of our move we have several things we need to invest in…

I bought a Kindle this week.  I know we won’t be taking any of my books to Zambia so I got a Kindle so I can read until my hearts content, without any of the space or weight of books.

Dan bought Jacob a blow up bathtub this week as well.  While we’ll have running water in Zambia, we want to be conscious of how much we use, so a little bathtub for him should do the trick.

We are also scouting out a Peapod tent for Jacob which will be his bed when we get there.  It works as a mosquito net as well.  Friends of ours recommended this so we’ll be investing in one of these soon.

So basically we’ve been shopping and haven’t really been sorting out much on the rest of the long list.  We’ll get to those things eventually 🙂
